Members present: Jerry Janacek Tracy Little Joan Longstaff Kerry Radley Members Absent: Melissa Johnson, Excused Staff Present: Rich Lindsay Guests: Kathy Hashbarger, My Edmonds News Approval of Minutes: Reviewed and approved minutes for May, June and August (Longstaff/Radley) New Business: • Advertising: As our guest, Kathy Hashbarger from My Edmonds News, was in attendance we discussed this new business item out of order. Kathy presented options for advertising and answered our questions. It was moved, seconded and approved (Longstaff/Radley) that we begin advertising in October on a monthly basis, and then contract for all of 2020. Kathy will send the contract to Rich. Kathy also mentioned advertising at the Edmonds Theater as well as opportunities for seminars. We will take those items up at a later meeting. Chair Report: • Board member Betty Gaeng, who has moved to Alaska, submitted her resignation on August 22, but stated that she wishes to help with events. Jerry suggested that we appoint Betty as an honorary board member. A motion was made, seconded and approved enthusiastically (Longstaff/Radley). • There will be two more board meetings in 2019 (no meeting in December). • Joan read a letter from Faye Locke who had attended our August board meeting as a prospective board member. She graciously declined at this time, but suggested she may be available in the future. Staff Report: • Sexton's report for September was reviewed. • Edmonds Rotary Noon Club painted the handrails at the columbarium and did a great job, although they were not able to complete all 800 feet. We should do this earlier in the year when the weather is warmer. • Pontem mapping works very well, although there is still a lot of data to be entered. • The Parks and Rec director position has not yet been filled. Sales Report — Sales and Services for September Month Grave Sales 4 Niche Sales 7 Burials 4 Inurnments 1 Year to Date Projections 26 40 15 25 36 55 7 25 Old Business: • We welcomed Kerry as a new board member and heard about her very interesting life. • We will plan to discuss themes for 2020 Memorial Day and Walk Back in Time events at the remaining meetings this year. New Business: • Memorial Day 2020 will need extra planning as Michael Reagan and family members of many of his honorees will be in attendance. Joan will invite Vivian Olson to attend our next meeting so that we can get started on planning for an anticipated much larger attendance. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 by Jerry Janacek. Next Meeting: Thursday, October 17, 2019, at the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main Street.
