Properties Interested in Historic Register
Commissioner Kelly reported that she and Commissioner Waite visited the home at 560 Bell Street and had a brief
discussion. She also forwarded staff a new photograph. Commissioner Raetzloff said he visited the home and actually went
inside. With the information provided by Commissioner Deiner-Karr, it appears that windows were changed and a fireplace,
a bathroom and the brickwork were added as part of a 1942 remodel. The house appears to be unchanged since 1942 (77
years). Commissioner Kelly pointed out that the home still has its original layout shown in the circa 1910 photograph.
Commissioner Scott agreed to review and update the application with the new information for the Commission to review at
their next meeting.
Discussion on Library Proiect
The Commissioners reviewed the draft plan and design for the Historic Preservation Commission's Library Exhibit. The
goal of the exhibit is to talk about what the Commission is and its purpose, and also display information on historic properties
in Edmonds, primarily those already on the Register. It was noted that copies of THE PRESERVATIONIST and walking tour
brochure will be needed as handouts. In addition, Commissioner Kelly agreed to forward one or more maps to Ms.
Cunningham so they can be printed in-house.
2020 Calendar
Commissioner Scott shared a quick update on the 2020 Calendar, advising that she is still accepting interesting 1960s dates.
She said Commissioner Waite has agreed to help incorporate more architectural elements this time.
ACTION ITEMS
Creative District Advisory Committee
The Commission discussed that Commissioner Waite is currently attending the advisory committee meeting as the
Commission's representative. It was noted that the meetings are on the same night as the Commission meetings, so the plan
is to put together a schedule to rotate representatives.
Historic Property Near Westgate
Ms. Cunningham referred to a memorandum from Council Member Teitzel asking that the Commission review a property
near Westgate for potential inclusion on the Register. She agreed to forward the memorandum to the Commissioners.
HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION CHAIR COMMENTS
Chair Johnson said she recently visited with one of the owners of three historic properties on A Avenue South across from
Pine Street Park. She indicated that the homes were moved from other places in the community, and she has a lot of
information she can share with the Commission. It appears that her home (the middle property), as well as the home to the
north have been modified and would not qualify for the Register, but she is unsure if the home to the south would be eligible.
She advised that the homes were previously occupied by people significant to Edmonds history and indicated an interest in
possibly joining the Commission.
Chair Johnson said that, as chair, her goal is to keep the meeting discussions focused on agenda topics, saving side
conversations until the end of the meeting.
