APPROVED MEETING NOTES
October 3, 2019
The Edmonds Citizens' Tree Board Meeting was called to order at 6:07 p.m. by Board Member Bill
Phipps in the City Hall Brackett Room 5t" Avenue North, Edmonds, WA.

CALL TO ORDER: Co-chair Bill Phipps called the meeting to order at 6:07
ROLL CALL: Roll call was taken; 7 members of the tree Board were present; Board member Vivian Olson
was absent. City Council Rep. Diane Buckshnis was absent
APPROVAL OF AGENDA: The Tree Board approved the agenda for Oct. 3, 2019
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The Tree Board approved the corrected minutes of September 5, 2019
AUDIENCE COMMENTS: There were no members of the public in attendance
OLD BUSINESS
1. Barbara Chase reported a successful Farmer's Market on Saturday Sept. 7th.. Two trees were raffled
off (cotinus and oxydendron /Sourwood) and were picked up. A young boy was given a small Japanese
Maple. We had our two Tree Board pamphlets on Pruning and Right tree, Right place.
2. Rich Lindsay reported that the trees and shrubs are ready for the October 5 Arbor Day planting which
starts at 10:00. It will be at the Main St. site east of 9tn Ave. There is a path on the south side of Main St.
.which leads to Shell creek. The planting will be above the path on the west side
3. The Tree Board will host a tree board class on Oct. 12, Doug Peterson reported that it will be in the
FAC from 10-11 The board members will have the brochures about pruning and Right Tree, Right Place .
There will be a time for attendees to ask questions about trees
4. Gail and Barbara will meet with Debra Dill to begin process of updating Street Tree List. Kyle
Braun will be working with Gail, Barbara And Debra Dill on the street tree list which will be
updated.
5. Tree City USA preparation will be done with our consultant, Kyle Braun. Rich Lindsay keeps
track of the staff hours. All Tree Board members need to send our consultant the hours they have
spent on Tree Board Activity besides the board meetings. Send the information on volunteer
hours to:

NEW BUSINESS:
Rich Lindsay updated us on the many tree projects which have been done or are going to be done
soon:
1. 8th and Walnut large evergreens will be replaced with shrubs
2. 6th and Bell, plum trees will be removed; more linden trees are possible
3. Sweet gum trees will be removed from in front of Rick Steves' business.

Rich also reported on progress in getting started on the park at Civic field. The Parks
Dept. will have a series of informational sessions about Civic Field . People will have a
chance to comment and ask questions. The Tree Board is very interested in what trees
and shrubs are in the plan. Hedge rows and other planting styles will be considered.
The city will be publicizing the opening on the Tree Board.
Good by party for Tree Board member Steve Hatzenbeler is set for 2nd Thursday in January 2020
at home of Barb Chase, time to follow.
