CALL TO ORDER Co -Chairman Kaleb Nichols called the meeting to order at 6:03 pm in room 123 in the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main St., Edmonds II. STATEMENTS - Connector statement was strong, but was 3 weeks late and seemed to open a new wound - None of the members said anything about how the statement was missing and it caused the commission to be unable to publish it in time - We need to have the statement about climate change ready before the meeting which is on the 9th, so that members can either present the statement at the meeting or soon after III. QUARTERLY YOUTH FORUM TOPICS - We will have breakout groups for forum as well as 5 topics with 2 members in each - Possible Topics: - 1. Mental Illness - 2. Climate Change - 3. Sexual Harassment Page 1.1.2 4. Homelessness 5. General Puget Sound Environment (Orcas, Marsh, etc.) 6. Affordable Housing - 7. Violence Prevention 8. Diversity in Edmonds 9. Social Media 10. Transportation - 11. Hate Crimes in Edmonds Narrowed Down Topics: - 1. Hate Crimes: i.e. the white supremacist mailings in Edmonds - 2. Social Media: i.e. how it is used, bullying - 3. Diversity in Edmonds: i.e. racial disparity, affordable housing, difference in incomes - 4. General Puget Sound Environment - 5. Sexual Harassment - 6. Mental Illness Flyers will have "registration required" to have headcount of people planning on coming - Advertising can be on social media, other means of distribution - Could assign remaining 5 topics to members to narrow down list of topics IV. HOMEWORK: PRELIMINARY RESEARCH - By July 24th, Finished July 31st - Revolved around the youth, what the youth have done, discussion topics, etc. - Caitlin: Sexual Harassment and Diversity - Jacob: General Puget Sound Environment - Caroline: Social Media - Emily: Hate Crimes - Kaleb: Mental Illness - Members not present at meeting can add to research that will be emailed out on the 24t h V. CURRENT EVENTS - Women went missing for 2 hours on the 14th, information is being asked of public - Mayoral debates today at 7pm at ECA, members can read up on MyEdmondsNews - Changing grade levels of junior high and high school and possible construction of buildings, many buildings need remodeling VI. IMPORTANT INFORMATION - Mandatory Meeting on Wednesday, September 18th in order to prep for forum Page 1.1.3 Considering retreat in late August/ early September for team bonding Jacob and Emily will keep an eye out for the climate change meeting that we may release a statement on Budget Information/Plans: $6,600 total - Advertising (paper flyers, newspaper, create a logo, possible vests for youth forum and other events, pens/pins) - Cellular Hotspot for community wifi — can also be used for events - Retreat: date for now is August 21st before scheduled meeting around 2-5:30 possible 23rd sand sculpture contest at 10 a.m. - Beach clean-up, catering, getting -to -know -you before work time LTJ I �_A IT19111001►Fi14►111 Co -Chairman Kaleb Nichols adjourned the meeting at 8:00 pm
