CALL TO ORDER Chairman StephanyJanssen motioned to call the meeting to order at 6:00 pm in Room 123 in the Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main St., Edmonds Alissa Berman seconded that motion Motion passed unanimously Chairman read the Native American Land Statement II. MINUTES - Approval of 11/6/19 Chairman StephanyJanssen moved to approve 9/18/19 meeting's minutes with two revisions: change "VII" to "VIII" and remove "Chairman read the Native American Land Statement" Sydney Pearson seconded that motion Motion passed unanimously III. MEETING FORMATS - We have had more side conversations and people talking over each other - It's important to utilize our time - We will make sure to be respectful of others' time speaking Page 1.1.2 IV. SHARE RESEARCH FOR FORUM - Jacob talked about his research on socioeconomic diversity in Edmonds (Brook was not here) - Owen and Sydney talked about their research on LGBTQ+ representation - Sydney and Alissa talked about their research on gender issues - Emily and Caitlin talked about their research on racial diversity V. BREAKOUT GROUPS - Our forum will be a food drive - Kaleb organized flyers VI. COUNCIL MEETING DEBRIEF - People haven't been going to council meetings - Last week, bill was passed mandating safe gun storage - Commission could have released a statement in support VII. DISCUSSION ON KATE PARKER'S IDEAS - We talked to Kate Parker about an environmental event - Clothing swap may not have been the most effective approach - We want an environmental forum - Could wrap a clothing swap or textile donation event into our forum? - Educating about the "reduce" step of "reuse, reduce, recycle" - Could donate to Clothes For Kids if we have clothing drive in environmental forum VIII. WHAT'S HAPPENING IN EDMONDS? - All the new City Council members are women (except Mike Nelson) - All white (the one woman of color lost, released statement about it) - College Place Rebuild meeting on Tuesday - Secretary Owen Lee's Earth Service Corps Club at Edmonds Woodway High School will be making a statement about why College Place should be made more sustainable - Supported by Edmonds Youth Commission? Co -Chairman Kaleb Nichols motioned to endorse E.S.C. in their pursuit of a more sustainable College Place Alissa Berman seconded that motion Secretary Owen Lee abstained due to a conflict of interest as an E.S.C. member Motion passed unanimously - Instead of increasing property tax to pay for water, city is considering increasing utility costs Page 1.1.3 Edmonds is making a trolley? - Seems ineffective; there's a bus, the whole route is less than a mile Edmonds Marsh Daylighting project awarded 400k dollars - To restore fish and wildlife habitat Returned to breakout groups for continued research IV. HOMEWORK & ADJOURN - Next meeting: all research done, flyers approved by district, press release ready, flyers ready with one having been sent out before Thanksgiving Break, targeted Facebook advertising ready, have contacts for morning announcements, talk to other students at Kamiak Leadership Conference (Owen and Caitlin) Co -Chairman Kaleb Nichols motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:29 pm Alissa Berman seconded that motion Meeting adjourned
