2019-07-11 Edmonds Downtown Alliance MinutesEdmonds • Downtown ALLIANCE July 11, 2019 8:03 AM — 9:37 AM Edmonds Center for the Arts Meeting called to order at 8:03 am Board Members/Administration in attendance: Cheryl Farrish, Carrie Hulbert, Matt McCulloch, Jenny Shore, Pam Stuller City of Edmonds representatives in attendance: Cindi Cruz, Patrick Doherty Ed! Members/Guests: Sheila Cloney (DEMA/Anchor Chic), Mary Kay Sneeringer (Edmonds Book Shop), Erica Sugg (Edmonds Chamber of Commerce) Public Comment: Erica Sugg with the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce reported the Chamber now has a business "Wish Fund" for those businesses located in the 98020 and 98026 area codes. The fund can help cover up -front costs businesses incur for unforeseen incidents such as break-ins. The fund is available to businesses whether or not they are a Chamber member. Sheila Cloney of DEMA and Anchor Chic presented a draft letter she composed which she proposed come from Ed! and DEMA urging the Mayor of Edmonds to include funds for way -finding signage in the next City budget. After discussion it was determined that Sheila would reword some points in the letter and work with Matt on a letter to submit to the Mayor. Approval of previous meeting's minutes: Pam moved to approve the meeting minutes of June 13, 2019. Jenny seconded. All approved, none opposed. President's Report: None Treasurer's Report: Projected assessments are about $8,000 below budget due to non-payment of dues and businesses closing. We'll need to reduce expenditures where we can and move budgeted items around to balance the budget this year. New Businesses added to the BID: Velvetine Lash, Stephanie Bates (Hypnotherapy/Graphic Arts). Girardi's has a new owner. Other Business City Update: • Westgate Village officially opens today. • Discussions are under way with Puget Sound Express to provide more cross -promotion. • An anonymous business sent a letter to the City saying the Saturday Markets are a bad idea. • Patrick has been trying to locate a trolley to run on Saturdays during the summer market. Trolley rental companies are scarce, and the City may look into buying a trolley. • The parking study proposal goes before City Council next week. Committee Updates: • Marketing: A Holiday marketing meeting will be scheduled soon. • Appearance & Environment: A new crosswalk will be installed at 2d and Main using the sailboat graphics. Also, Bank of America agreed to join the after-hours parking program which will add 50 spaces. The new umbrellas are here and are available at Savvy Traveler. • Communication and Outreach: No update • Grant Program: Members of the committee met with the City's Diversity Commission regarding a proposed grant request for stickers for businesses' windows. Alternatives were discussed including light pole plaques that would include the "Love, Edmonds" theme, so the Diversity Commission will not move forward with a grant request. • Administration: No update Meeting adjourned at 9:37 a.m. Next Board meeting August 8th at 8:00 a.m. at the ECA.
