Resolution 052RESOLUTION NO. 52 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHI NGTON,, SETTING FORTH THE CITY'S POSITION ON CERTAIN PROPOSED LEGISLATION PENDING BEFORE THE 1961 SESSION OF THE WASHINGTON STATE LEGISLATURE. WH E R EA S, House Bill 119 and Senate Bill 111, which have been intro- duced in the 1961 session of the Washington State Legislature contain proposed changes in the organization and operation of the Lower Court System of the State of Washington, and WHEREAS, said proposed legislation, if enacted, would, among other changes, abolish the appointive position of Police Judge, or Police Justice, in the various cities and towns of the State of Washington, as said position is presently authorized by existing statutes, and would remove from the various mayors of said cities and towns the power to appoint Police Judges, or Police Justices, for their respective cities and towns, NOW,, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the City of Edmonds adopts the following positions and principles with regard to any proposed changes in the organization and operation of the Lower Court System of the State of Washington: 1. While recognizing a need for changes and improvements in the present organization and operation of the Lower Court System of Washington, the City Council is, nevertheless, opposed to any such changes which would mandatorily abolish the appointive position of Police Judge, or Police Justice, in the various cities and towns of the State of Washington. 2. The City Council maintains that the governing body of each City and Town of the State of Washington should have the option and power to make an inde- pendent determination as to whether or not each city or town shall have an appoint- ive position of Police Judge, or Police Justice.
