WHEREAS the City of Edmonds is the fastest growing
city in the State of Washington, with a correspondingly great
increase in traffic, and
WHEREAS 76th Avenue West from 244th St. S. W. to
U. S. Highway 99 serves not only the exploding population of
the City of Edmonds but the rapidly expanding cities of
Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace as well, and
WHEREAS said 76th Avenue West terminates on the
South at a previously overcrowded and inadequately controlled
intersection, which conditions increasingly magnify not only
from the increasing population of South Snohomish County but
in addition by multimillion dollar business enterprises in
the immediate vicinity presently in existence and formally
announced as soon to be opening, and
WHEREAS said 76th Avenue West carries traffic
bound from city to city and county to county and has long past
ceased any semblence of local character and has for a consid-
erable period been in character and burden a State highway, and
WHEREAS said 76th Avenue West has by reason of the
foregoing premises been transformed from a way of local travel
to a stretch of intercity and intrastate carnage greatly endang-
erg the lives and convenience of those who dare to tread upon
it,
NOW,,, THEREFOREv, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council
of the City of Edmonds that the State of Washington be urged
to expediently make said 76th Avenue West from 244th St. S.W.
to U.S. Highway 99 part of the State Secondary Highway System
and conform the same to State standards and safety, and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
forwarded to the State Highway Commission.
