Resolution 106RESOLUTION NO. 106 A RESOLUTION IN COOPERATION WITH THE WASHINGTON STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION URGING THAT COMMISSION TO RETAIN U. S. HIGHWAY 99 AS A STATE HIGHWAY WHEREAS, the Washington State Highway Commission has indicated that that portion of U.S. Highway 99 which lies within the City limits of the City of Edmonds, Wash- ington will be turned over to the City of Edmonds by the Washington State Highway Commission, and WHEREAS, the City of Edmonds in cooperation with the County of Snohomish, the City of Lynnwood, the City of Mountlake Terrace and other municipal and planning organiza- tions throughout South Snohomish County, has studied the traffic flow in the City of Edmonds and its surrounding environs and has planned for the future growth and facili- tation of that traffic, and WHEREAS, U.S. Highway 99 from Seattle to Everett carries more traffic than almost all other highways in the State of Washington, including state highways and interstate freeways, and, WHEREAS, U.S. Highway 99 is primarily an intercity highway involving transportation between several different cities, and WHEREAS, U.S. Highway �9 in construction, maintenance and flow of traffic exceeds any presently existing or forseeable street or arterial in the City of Edmonds, and _ - /__'?Lr WHEREAS, the City of Edmonds in response to the request of the Washington State Highway Commission has passed Resolution No. 105 resolving to cooperate by providing local planning information for use in the continuing transportation planning process for the cehtral Puget Sound region and has been thereby invited to play a more active role in the con- tinuing transportation planning process of the central Puget Sound region, NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON that the State Highway Commission be, and the same hereby is, requested not to turn U.S. Highway 99 over to the City of Edmonds, but to retain it as a State Highway, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the Washington State Highway Commission and the Office of the Governor of the State of Washington. ..1 r MAYOR c ATTEST: _"nj CITY CLERK PASSED BY THE CITY COUNCIL: MAY 4 1965 FILED WITH THE CITY CLERK:—AY a - 19�d - 199 -2-
