A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF EDMONDS, WASHINGTON DECLARING A
NEED FOR LOW -RENT HOUSING UNDER THE PRO-
VISIONS OF SECTION 23 OF THE UNITED STATES
HOUSING ACT OF 1937, AS AMENDED AND NOTIFYING
THE HOUSING AUTHORITY OF THE COUNTY OF
SNOHOMISH OF THE INTENTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF EDMONDS TO CONTRACT WITH SAID
AGENCY FOR A PROGRAM OF LEASING PRIVATELY -
OWNED HOUSING UNDER SAID SECTION 23.
WHEREAS, under the provisions of Section 23 of the United
States Housing Act of 1937, as amended, the United States of America,
acting through the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, is
authorized to provide financial assistance to local public housing agencies
in providing low -rent housing by leasing dwelling units in existing privately -
owned structures; and
WHEREAS, said Section 23 provides that the provisions thereof
shall not apply to any locality unless the governing body of the locality
has by resolution approved the application of such provision to such
locality, now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Edmonds,
Washington, as follows:
1. The application of the provisions of Section 23 of the United
States Housing Act of 1937, as amended, to the City of Edmonds, State
of Washington, be and the same hereby is approved.
2. The Housing Authority of the County of Snohomish is hereby
invited to encourage application for dwelling units within the City of
Edmonds to be provided by leasing privately -owned housing under
Section 23 of the United States Housing Act of 1937, as amended, and
implementing a program therefor by contract with the City of Edmonds,.
3. The City Clerk shall cause a certified copy of this
Resolution to be forwarded to the Housing Authority for the County of
Snohomish thereby extending an invitation to said Housing Authority
to outline a program and contract with the City of Edmonds to meet
the needs of persons of low income with particular reference to the
retired and elderly.
RESOLVED this 4th day of April, 1972 by the City Council of
the City of Edmonds.
