Edmonds Memorial Cemetery Board Meeting Minutes

Call to Order
Chair Jerry Janacek called the meeting to order at 4:05 pm.

Approval of Minutes
• October board meeting minutes approved with correction; add Kerry Radley to
Board Members present at the meeting.
Guest Vivian Olson - Presented the Memorial Day Project that the Edmonds Arts
Festival Commission has planned for the upcoming Memorial Day activities in May
2020 and how the Cemetery Board's Memorial Day planning might be integrated.
We will have ongoing communication with Vivian and she will be included in our
Memorial Day planning meetings.
Finance Report:
September Transaction Summary reviewed.
Chair Report:
• Edmonds City Code for Cemetery Board 10.16 distributed to Board members.
Discussed Funds for Improvement and Maintenance of the Cemetery. Rich
Lindsay will bring the numbers on running the cemetery on a monthly and yearly
basis to January meeting. We will discuss the impacts going forward with the
Columbarium expansion which will be a budget issue for the 2021 budget. Rich
will bring dates for the Board to meet with him at the Cemetery to discuss the
Columbarium space to expand.
Staff Report:
• 670 American flags were put out on gravesites for Veterans Day in the cemetery.
A lot of leaves were down in the Cemetery, Cliff was able to get the leaves up for
Veterans Day and the cemetery looked very nice.

• The last day for Cliffs seasonal worker is November 27.
• Steve McGowan is retiring on November 23.
• A grant for the cemetery was applied for, we will know in April 2020 whether we
receive it. This money will be used for the ongoing Cemetery mapping project.
• We now have an ad on My Edmond news.com - the price will be $933.00 from
November 2019-December 2020. The Cemetery advertising budget for the
remainder of 2019 is $1500.00. It was decided to run 2 ads in the Edmonds
Beacon in December for $400.00. We will revisit advertising in the Beacon in
January 2020.

Old Business:
• Tracy brought to the Board pricing for an ad with the Cascade Symphony and
Driftwood Players. She will also look into advertising at the Edmonds Theater and
ECA for the January meeting.
• Melissa has set the first planning meeting for Memorial Day for the 1st Monday of
the month starting January6, 2020. She will send a reminder email to Board
members, VFW representative and Vivian Olson before that date. It was decided
that our theme this coming Memorial Day will be the 75th Anniversary of the end
of WWII.
New Business:
• Dale would like to recognize former Board members Esther Sellers and Rosie
Specht, both of whom have passed away this past year, at our Memorial Day
program.
• Election of 2020 Officers resulted in Jerry Janacek remaining the Chair, Tracy
Little will be Vice Chair and Melissa Johnson, Secretary.

There is no Board meeting in December.
