1945-06-05 City Council MinutesMay 22, 1945 A special meeting of the -Council was called by Mayor Pourtner. The roll call showed the following Councilmen present Chandler, Ala:usen , Hansen, . Jones and McGibbon.. The meeting.was called to consider bids on the sewer project, with any decision subject to ruling by City Attorney as to legality of acceptance. A motion was mada by Hansen and seconded by Chandler that the bid of Alfred Johnson of $1145..90 the alternate bid, be accepted, vJith the option to accept the basic bid of. $1465.90 for the laying of 330 feet of sewer, within agreed time. Motion carried by a unaminoas vote of the Council There being no further business the meeting adjourned. 0 4 iv-L"I'l Mayor May 24, 1945. A special meeting.of the Council was called by Mayor i'ourtner. The roll call showed the following Councilmen present Chandler, Savage, Hansen, McGibbon and Clausen. A letter was received from the Attorney in which he stated the Council would have to readvertise for bids on the sewer or do the work by day labor. After considerable discussion a motion was made by Chandler and seconded by Savage the the Clerk readvertise for bids for the.sewer construction IML blocks 77 and.68. The roll call vote showed all councilmen present in favor of the motion. There being no further business the meeting adjourned. The basic bid is for $1465..90 and the alternate bid for .51145.90. A motion was made by McGibbon and seconded by Clausen that the council accept the alternate°� with the option to accept the basic bid. Motion carried by a uLaminous vote of the Council. A motion was made by Chandler and,seconded by Clausen that Ralph Wilson be given permission to have the sirene for the police department overhauled. Motion carried. 1 u Mr. Cooper and -Miller care before, the council in regards to having standard lights installed . in the business district of the city.,., also parking meters and to have the entrance to the city posted. Mr. Miller was asked to get in touch with the business men and make a survey as to the number of lights needed and make a report at the next meeting of the council. Mr. Miller asked for permission TorothnPioneer Club to operate a fall festival, which is being sponsored by.the Home Club. L motion was made by Chandler and seconded by Savage that this Club be given permission to operate the fall Festival, Motion carried. Mr. Martin came before. the council in: regards, to having First Avenue North black -topped. Councilman McGibbon asked who was going to pay for this work. A motion yeas made by McGibbon and seconded by Savage that the Clerk get in touch with the Engineer asking him to turn.in a report on the street improvements, ranking them in order and the costs of such improvements, Motion carried. r P A motion was made by Chandler and seconded b.y Savage that the Street Supt.. be authorized to have the streets mowed. Motion carried. Councilman Clausen reported an excessive amount.of air in the line from the Yost well, to the steel tank., which effected six of our water, customers. He suggested, laying of pipe to Finth and Maple street in order to get away from this condition. A motion was made by Chandler and seconded by (McGibbon that the water superintendent purchase 1000 feet of 11 pipe, and to install pipe. Motion carried. After some discussion about licensing the different amusement places a motion was made by Savage and seconded by McDonell that the Attorney draw up an Ordinance covering the same. Motion carried. There being no further business the meeting adjourned. R�x Ulty Clergy Mayor June 19, 1945 The Council met in regular session with Mayor Vourtner presiding. The roll call shored the following Council present Chandler, McDonell, McGibbon, Jones, Savage, Hansen and Clausen. A motion was made by McGibbon and seconded by Savage that the bills which were approved by the finance committee be allowed. Motion carried. Mayor Pourtner reported that Chief of Police Hawkings had turnedaiwhis resignation. A motion was made by Clausen a.nd.seconded by Chandler that the council accept the resignation of C. U. Hawkings. The Oath of office was signed ,by Ralph Wilson as the New Chief of Police. Engineer reported pump had been shipped - 01So reported if the City wants blacktop work done the County would bring equipment and charge the City for the work. Motion was made by Chandler and seconded by .Clausen that the enginewr be authorized to have the seal coat on fifth street to Bell and sixth street from Main street to Glenn Street. Motion was carried. Pars. Telfer and Ax. .Hill .came before the Council in regard to a swimming pool for children. It was suggested that the resouvoi-r at Ninth and Main Streets be used for same or a, place on the beach._ Mr. Waggoner reported he had a rep,oit that the beach was condemned for swimming. It was suggested to write, the State Health Department, in regard to this.. Mayor Fourtner.appointed a committee to work with the school Superintendent Hill, Mrs. Telfer and Mr. McGibbon in regard to the cost of a swimming pool. Motion Was made by-4cGibbon and secondel by Savage. Motion was made by Chandler and .seconded by Savage that the, P.S.2. & Light Co. make a survey of the City in regard to the estimated cost for lighting the City. Motion carried. IMotior: was jade by Savage and seconded by Chandler that Dewey Leyda be given permission.to connect his sewer to the manhole. .Motion was made by IcGibbon ar.d seconded by Savage that the City pay for the drainage of water around the High School, not to exceed $250., Roll call vote showed Chandler no, IMcDonell yes, .
