1947-04-01 City Council MinutesLpril 1, 1947 The Council met in regular session with Mayor Fourtner presiding. The roll call showed all 'councilmen present. e The water collectors report was read. A motion was made by 8,671noilman Mo— Ginness and seconded by Councilman Maxwell that the bills which were approved by the finance committee be allowed and warrants be drawn on the proper funds• motion carried Mr. Cook., representing Hugh G. Purcell Co., came before the council in regards to purchasing cast iron pipe. A motion was made by Councilman McGinness and seconded by Councilman Waggoner that the water committee and Supt. oontdat Mr. Cook about the purchase of this pipe. Motion carried. Resolution of Intention # 117, for the constructing of the Maple Street sewer came up for hearing. A number of people came before the Council, sourer were for and against this improvement. Also two protests with the signatures of property owners in blocks 56, 37 and 71 were read. Not having enough signatures.to protest a'gainstethe sewer a motion was made by Councilman Tucker and seconded by Councilman McGibbon that the Attorney draw up the Ordinance for said sewer. A roll stall vote showed all councilmen in favor. Mrs. Sertz came before the council and asked to have water extended to her property on Walnut street from tenth to the city limits. A motion was made by councilman McGinness and seconded by Councilman:Siefert that this be re- ferred to the water committee. Motion carried. A motion was made by Councilman Siefert and seconded by councilman McGibbon that a fan be purchased for the council room. Motion carried Engineer Wolff read the contract for the Dayton street sewer. A motion was made by councilman Maxwell and seconded by councilman McGibbon that the Mayor and Clerk sign the contract when the bond is completed, and the several correction made. Passed by a unaminous vote of the council Resolution of Intention was read to) the Council, to improve Fifth Street from the South City limits to Main Street, Sixth Street from Walnut Street to Main Street, Main Street from Sixth Street to Ninth Street, Dayton -Street from Fourth Street to Eighth Street,.Alder Street from Sixth Street to Seventh Street, Walnut Street from Fifth Street to Seventh Street, the un- named Street in Block 97 from Main Street to Dayton Street by grading, paving with a bituminous type paving mix together with the installiAn along said streets of standard curbs and gutters, where such do not presently exist, together with drainage inlets, catch basins, sewer connections and all week and appurtenances as may be necessary to make a complete improvement. A motion was made by Councilman McGinness-and seconded by Councilman Waggoner that Resolution of Intention #119 be adopted and published. Motion carried. A motion was made by Councilman McGinness and seconded by oouncillilLn McGibbon that the railroad Co.,pay for the water used from the hydrant on the basis of any other oommercial water user and the railway Co., to check on the amount of water used. Motion carried. g motion was made by•+06uncilman Siefert and seconded by McGinness that the :Cler)X totify the ferry co.,, that they are to furnish the markers for taking care of the traffic also to request them to have an officer at the next meeting of the Council. Motion carried. Motion carried with five voting yes and two no. Mr. Womer,asked about the placing of stop signs. A motion was made by councilman Siefert that the Chief of Police contact the state Highway dept. about stop signs. No second to the motion., Mayor Fourtner referred this to the Street Supt.. and the chief of polkoe. Mr. Bean ask for permission to take down the Bard -rail and fill in Erven drive so he can drive to his building. He was given this permission. There being no further business the meeting adjourned.
