1948-06-01 City Council Minutesu A petition was read to -the council from the property owners on Maple Street from Ninth to Tenth Avenue, in which they ask that two buildings be removed and the property condemned because fo the property not being connected to the sewer. After receiving this petition the property has been connected to the sewer. A motion war: made by councilman Tucker and seconded by council- man McGinness that this be referred to the Attorney for what action we can take. A motion was made by Councilman McGibbon and seconded by councilman McGinness that a committee be appointed to look into the improving the city buildings on Maple Street. Motion carried. Mayor Fourtner appointed councilman Tucker, McGibbon and McGinn;ess. Mr. 'comer reported that the County owns the three lots on Maple street which are being used by the city for the garages, and there are assessments against these lots. He was asked to look into the buying of these lots. A motion was made by councilman Tucker and seconded by councilman McGibbon that $10 a month be paid for the Gleaning of the City Hall at lease once a week. Motion carried. A motion was made by,councilman Siefert and seconded by councilman Waggoner that councilman McGibbon and Maxwell check on the installing of a gas tank-* There being no further business the meeting adjourned. i y le Mayor June 1, 1948 The Council met in regular session with Mayor F'ourtner presiding. The roll call showed all councilmen -,resent. A motion was made by councilman Maxwell and seconded by councilman Tucker that -the brills which were approved by the finance committee be allow6d and warrants be drawn on the proper funds. Motion carried. A letter was read from the Edmonds Port Association in which they ask for a float to be built at the dock. A motion was made by councilman Siefert and seconded by councilman Tucker that this be turned over to the Park committee for consideration. Motion carried. A letter wqs read from Frank 0. Sether, Commissioner of Deaprtment of Publio Lands in. which he states a lease will be issued for Lot 1 Plate 4, of the Edmonds 'fide Lands when an additional remittance of y67 has been issued. A motion was made by councilman Siefert and seconded by councilamn McGibbon that this be,turned over to the park committee for consideration. Motion carried. A motion was made 'by councilman McGibbon and seconded by councilman Tucker that the water rates and time be the same as last year from May 15 to Sept. ember 15. Motion carried. The Clerk was asked to notify George Jones to put up the fence at the Garbage dump. A motion was made by councilman McGibbon and seconded by councilman Tucker that the purchase of a mowing machine be referred to the street committee. Motion carried. A petition was read to the council with signatures of over 300 persons from Hitsas County asking for a ferry to Kingston. A committee from dingston was also at the council meeting, stating their views why a ferry should be oper— ating between Edmonds and Kingston. The problem of water running down the alley on Mrs. �ieeton's property was referred'to the street supt. and committee. The Street Supt'. reported that people were throwing rubbish in the gutter Mayor Pourtner asked that this be reported to the police Lepartment. Two bids were received for water pipe. One from Marckmann &101illiams on foar inch 12 gauge Steel pipe dipped and wrapped with fibre glass cloth with one dressler coupling at a price of $80.70 per hundred feet, and two inch pipe of extruded aluminum pipe at a price of 943.10 per hundred feet. Bid nol two from Johns -Manville for four inch transite pressure pipe including one transite simplex coupling and two rubber rings, class 150 at a price of 88cents a lineal foot, sh.ipment.can be made 'Jan- uary 1949. The bids on this pipe were turned over to the water committee for condideration. Councilman McGinness reported that a new mower would cost g370 also that a new motor for the grader Would cost 4950. Mr. Sater asked to have Sixth Avenue from Main to daytoh street closed ffuly 3, 4, and 5th, during the July celebration. Because of the Mayor and Clerk not signing the notice of lease terminat- ion of the Ferry Dock a motion was made by councilman McGinness and seconded by councilman McGibbon that a ipw notice be drawn up and the expiration date be made July 31 insteaW-of dune 30, this document to be delivered to the Ferry Co, with aletter inviting them to negioate a new contract, also that $200 is due for the first six months rental, signed by the Attorney.
